TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

In the heart of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument sits Yellow Rock, a multicolored, dome-like rock formation made of swirling Navajo sandstone.

Yellow, orange, red, pink, and white ridges create wavy and straight patterns that will remind you of ice cream swirls. With sweeping panoramic views at the summit of the hike, this is one of the best photographic destinations in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, with views of Castle Rock, No Man’s Mesa, and Hackberry Canyon. The Yellow Rock Tours off-trail adventure involves steep hiking and is not for the beginner hiker.

The Yellow Rock Tours departs from Kanab, UT or Page, AZ at approximately 8:00am and returns at approximately 3:00pm.

Packages start at $220

Yellow Rock Tours

Departs Page or Kanab: approximately 8:00am
Returns Page or Kanab: approximately 3:00pm

Yellow Rock has some of the most extraordinary geology in Southern Utah and covers an area of more than 5 football fields. Without a trail to follow once on the rock, you’ll be able to wander around the brilliant hues that surround you. The difficulty of the hike is moderate, but depends on weather conditions. The hike is about 5 miles round trip through rock, sand, and steep hills at a 45 degree angle. The Yellow Rock Tours are perfect for photographers and those who want to see classic Southwest sandstone views in a remote area.

TRAVEL TIPS

We recommend wearing a solid, supportive hiking shoe with hard bottom that can get muddy or wet. During the winter, we recommend warm layers, long pants, and hats. During summer and fall, we recommend light layers to shade from the sun, hats, and sunglasses.
