Do you like to explore the hidden gems of the Southwest? Do you have a sense of adventure? Well look no further! From hiking in Buckskin Gulch Slot Canyon to the iconic Wave of North Coyote Buttes, DETOURS Adventures has it all!
One of our most popular tours in the newest division of the DETOURS family is White Pocket. Often described as “other-worldly,” White Pocket is a full day hiking tour made for novices and experts alike. It’s backcountry nature means less crowds and more connecting with the land around you, which you will definitely want to do in this one of a kind location! If you’re into photography, this is the perfect place to capture amazing landscape photographs. This tour departs from both Page, AZ and Kanab, UT and is perfect for the whole family to enjoy!
If you’ve heard of Antelope Canyon, you’re going to want to check out its less crowded counterparts: Buckskin Gulch and Peek A Boo Canyon. Both of these tours are perfect for all ages and skill levels. Buckskin Gulch, thought to be the largest slot canyon in the world, is a full day hiking tour that departs from Page and Kanab. It is an awe inspiring 14 miles long, but don’t worry, you will only hike about 5 miles and can be modified to your skill level. Our Peek A Boo Canyon tour, departing from Kanab, is a half day tour and gives guests some amazing imagery that rivals other slot canyons. With its burnt orange colored walls, you may think you’re on another planet. No matter what you choose, you can’t go wrong with either of these slot canyons!
If you’re looking for a rare, one of a kind hiking adventure then look no further than the Coyote Buttes. Split into two seperate areas, North and South Coyote Buttes have amazing landscape that is sure to take your breath away! Since the rock formations in Coyote Buttes are so extraordinary and one of a kind, only 20 people are allowed into the area each day. You can apply for these permits online months in advance or enter the lottery in person for a chance to see these once in a lifetime locations. North Coyote Buttes includes a 6 mile round trip hike to the world renowned Wave rock formation. Although it’s not an easy hike during the summer months, as it gets extremely hot with minimal shade, it is all worth it once you see the amazing Navajo Sandstone that dates back to the Jurassic Age. As for South Coyote Buttes, you can see formations similar to the Wave during the hike, with incredible views of teepee rock formations and brilliantly colored stone. Even though permits can be extremely difficult to get, these locations are truly ones you don’t want to miss if you are the lucky one chosen!
Advanced hikers are no stranger to the breathtaking hikes in the Southwest, and with that in mind we have two perfect tours for those who are more athletically inclined! With Yellow Rock in Grand Staircase-Escalante and Teepees in Coyote Buttes, we have something for more experienced hikers to really sink your boots into. During our full day Yellow Rock hiking tour, departing from both Page and Kanab, you will enjoy seeing amazing yellow, orange, white, red, and mauve Navajo Sandstone. All together it looks as if someone spilled paint over an area larger than 5 football fields! On this hike you can expect unimpeded views of Castle Rock, No Man’s Mesa, and Hackberry Canyon, which makes the difficulty of getting there worth it. Out at Teepees, you will see views similar to the Wave without needing a permit. Due to the amount of sand and rock covering the terrain on our 5 to 8 mile hike, as well as its remote location, guests will expect this difficult hike to be the least crowded tour DETOURS Adventures offers. Much like Coyote Buttes, both Yellow Rock and Teepees are exposed to the elements and become very hot during the summer months, so we recommend visiting these amazing areas during spring, winter, and fall.
DETOURS Adventures has so many diverse and beautiful locations to visit, it can be hard to choose just one. If you can’t decide, give us a call and we can help you decide on the best one for you, or join us on multiple unique adventures! The Southwest is yours to explore!
