Summer in the American West is hot, we all know that, so let’s get that out of the way first. Just because the temperatures here are a *little* above average, doesn’t mean your vacation has to be anything less than amazing. As the hot summer days drift away, let us help you make the most of your summer nights while in our city!
For our guests coming to Phoenix, let us treat you to a unique adventure! This summer, join us on July 28th, August 25th, and September 15th for our Verde Canyon Summer Starlight tour from Phoenix. Enjoy the cooler temperatures with a late morning departure and the opportunity to see the beautiful Arizona sunset and starry night sky in the Verde Valley. Included in the tour is a stop in the historic town of Jerome, known originally in the 1800’s for being a large producer of copper and gold, but now is a quaint ghost town full of history. After enjoying the charm of Jerome, the tour heads to the Copper Art Museum in Clarkdale to see the incomparable collection of copper pieces, guided by the museum’s expert curator and docent. The collection combines history and artifacts, including functional and artistic pieces, into stunning and unique exhibits. The final leg of the tour treats you to remarkable views of the Verde Valley in first class seats on the Verde Canyon Railroad. The train departs the depot during the cooler temperatures in the late afternoon and travels through a wide and wild array of changing light and color in the canyon, from golden sunset to twilight and into the glow of the moon. Sandwiched between two protected national forests and adjacent to the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness, Verde Canyon Railroad brings its passengers into an untamed and unspoiled terrain, the exceedingly rare ribbon where high desert meets the river. This limited-time, summer starlight train is the perfect way to spend a summer night in the beautiful state of Arizona.
If you’re joining us from Las Vegas, don’t miss one of our brand new private, overnight tour offerings to Page, AZ, one of the most beautiful destinations in the American West. This small town features incredible spots such as Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Lake Powell. Our private, overnight tour of the area gives you a chance to experience the exquisite and serene surroundings, with extra activities available if desired. Our tour travels in a private, custom vehicle through the Mojave Desert, which is known for the iconic Joshua tree, native to only this desert. After a comfortable journey, you will visit Horseshoe Bend, a natural phenomenon of the Colorado River known for its beauty. After taking in the views, you will head to Lake Powell and be treated to a scenic cruise while enjoying the dazzling sunset among the towering mountains and cliffs. An overnight stay at a Lake Powell hotel is included, and necessary to be sure you’re rested for the next day of adventures! During the morning hours, the tour heads to Antelope Canyon, one of the most beautiful slot canyons in the world. Experience the oranges, reds, pinks, and purples of the tall, winding canyon walls. Don’t forget your cameras because this spot is a photographer’s dream! This is the perfect private getaway from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas.
As the famous actress Olivia Newton-John once said, don’t let your summer dreams rip at the seams, stay out ‘till 10 o’clock (Grease reference, anyone?). However you decide to enjoy the summer nights in the Southwest, make sure DETOURS is your go to for all your travel desires!
Cool for the Summer
Road trips are a staple for the summer no matter what age you are. The feeling of getting in the car with the people you love and driving off into the sunset is best felt when the months get hot. Here at DETOURS we have a special way to cool down during these summer months. Departing from both Las Vegas and Phoenix, our amazing multi-day tour, the Cool Down tour, is perfect for helping you take your mind off of the summer heat.
The Las Vegas Cool Down tour is a 4 day, 4 night trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon North Rim. To start off this exciting tour, guests enjoy a pre-night at the beautiful New York, New York. From there we take guests on this exciting tour that shows each of the most enticing scenery that is unique to the American West. From the iconic image of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the contrasting green foliage and red rocks of Zion, the Las Vegas Cool Down tour has something for all guests to be in awe of. From day one of this amazing trip, it’s destined to be remembered. Driving upwards in altitude, guests view everything from the breathtaking Virgin River Gorge to the Pipe Spring National Monument where a relaxing picnic lunch is enjoyed. Upon arrival at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, a wonderful hike leads to one of the best spots to watch the sunset over the Canyon. Day two takes guests out to Bryce Canyon in Southern Utah where they see unique rock formations, called Hoodoos, that are developed only after millions of years of erosion. While these Hoodoos are found on every continent, Bryce Canyon has the largest collection in the world. The next morning, optional activities and excursions such as hiking, horseback riding, or an even more exhilarating ATV experience can be arranged at an additional charge. Driving through Cedar Breaks National Monument, as far as the eye can see, guests will be able to view the amazing colors of the rocks, dense forests, and fields that contain gorgeous wildflowers – all leading up to the last stop on this tour: Zion National Park. Meaning a place of peace and refuge, Zion National Park truly lives up to its name. Between the amazing cliffs and canyons, Zion is a true sanctuary where guests can feel at one with nature, especially during a relaxing evening walking tour at the end of their day. On their way back into fabulous Las Vegas, guests take a pitstop in St. George and learn about the history of Utah before heading back on the road through the Paiute Indian lands and forest of Joshua Trees.
Starting with a preday at the Tempe Mission Palms, the Phoenix Cool Down Tour is an exciting 6 day, 6 night tour to Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon North Rim, and Lake Powell. After traveling North through the red rocks that cover the Arizona landscape, guests will take a picnic lunch at Lee’s Ferry Lodge. As we head through ranch land and forests, guests travel over the Kaibab Plateau before entering the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. On the morning of day two, guests can enjoy the incredible sunrise over the North Rim before heading on a morning walk along the Rim Trail. From there, we will visit the Hoodoos of Bryce Canyon from Sunset Point as the colors of the American West sunset playfully drift across the landscape. Next, guests experience a full day in Zion to see everything their hearts desire. From emerald green pools and cascading waterfalls to the amazing plant and animal population, you won’t get enough! Guests then end their day with a hosted dinner and a relaxing evening walking tour. Day four is a travel day out to Page, Arizona, home of the beautiful and calm waters of Lake Powell. Day five allows guests to watch the sunrise over the waters of Lake Powell before going on an optional boat excursion to Rainbow Bridge, one of the largest known natural bridges in the world. After a restful nights sleep, guests head back to Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun where they stay one more magical night at the Tempe Mission Palms.
